I Have a Dream

I am happy to join with you today in what will go down in history as the greatest demonstration for freedom in the history of our nation.

Five score years ago, a great American, in whose symbolic shadow we stand today, signed the Emancipation Proclamation. This momentous decree came as a great beacon light of hope to millions of Negro slaves who had been seared in the flames of withering injustice. It came as a joyous daybreak to end the long night of their captivity.

But one hundred years later, the Negro is still not free.”

-Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

People of all ethnicities participated in the Black American Civil Rights Movement of the fifties and sixties. Because of this movement the creators of the BACRightsDL have been able to forge an enduring friendship, work, eat, study and live together without fear of persecution. This project was produced as a way to educate society on the Black America Civil Rights Movement; it was also developed as a way to provide users with related resources about this period in history. We hope that students, researchers and anyone else interested in this time period will find something that moves them within this digital library.
